Here
is an alphabetical list of the
coffee roasters in New Zealand. With a link
to more personal information and their websites.
As time goes along I will be
interviewing the roasters and placing
their comments on line. Roasters if you have any new or changing news
please let
me know so it can be added to your pages. Also roasters if you have any
digital
photos I can add it would be appreciated by all concerned.
This is where it all begins with
the coffee bean. It is interesting and
helpful to get the information provided by the roasters.
They are a very dedicated bunch of people passionate about
their trade as I believe they have a right to be.
Here is some
interesting information from Chris Dillon -
There are approx 120-140 tons
of green coffee roasted in NZ each week, about 80% for cafe use, about
20% for sale in supermarkets . Although there are more than 140
roasting businesses in NZ, the market is dominated by the largest dozen
or so, who all bring in green beans through their own established
supply lines - relationships with brokers and producer groups.
Most of the rest of the
roasters buy from the main green coffee importer, John Burton Limited
in Auckland.
The quality of beans used by NZ
roasters is quite high, mostly from the top 5% of Arabicas.
This is only a portion of
the coffee roasters in
New Zealand. Anyone
want to add to this? A lot of roasters and cafes, for that matter, have
not provided us with their information so I can provide them with a web
page on the site. I guess they are either overwhelmed with customers
and don't need any more or just don't want you to know about
them. I
make it easy all they have to do is contact me and I do the work on the
website all free! (though a sample of their beans would be appreciated)
Mystery to me why businesses do not want free advertising??
